Snow has ended but it is still below freezing (25 degrees at this moment). A pioneer woman would saddle her favorite mount and ride the fences. I am not up for that today. The clouds are in a race with the sun to determine the shadow question for the resident ground hog. I am crossing my fingers that winter is OVER.
Friday afternoon I retrieved Splash from Patty’s Trail Bootcamp and went to Dr. C-W to do coggins tests so we will be ready for the WRC. I was able to time my visit so that I could ride Splash with a little guidance from Patty before we headed to the vet. I was wearing the mild western spurs and noticed that Splash was pretty nice trotting along the rail. Our canter transitions on the right lead were good – left lead required the addition of a whip (not kosher for western classes). Now we just need boot camp for the rider.
The State 4-H Horse Communication Contest was held in Stillwater on the 1st and the Quizbowl teams performed well. Speeches and Team Problem Solving was also pretty good. Alaina presented a good powerpoint over endangered horse breeds and received a red ribbon. Ivy gave a speech on Trail Riding / Night and Day and won a blue ribbon. Ivy and her team problem solving group (Lara, Jesse, and Mikayla) were champions with blue ribbons. Fun day even if I didn’t get to ride.
Now, if spring would just spring already.
