And we are 5 days into the year. Lucky the weather was good for the New Year’s Ride because it got cold and is getting colder. And there are a couple of inches of snow on the ground.
Instead of the party lesson on Saturday, we made mighty preparations and spent the day at the re-scheduled 4-H Horse Club Year End Banquet. Both girls won belt buckles for work with their project horses in 2013 and both will be officers for 2014; Alaina as Secretary and Ivy as Historian.
Alaina was Class Champion 12-14 with Sunny for Hunter Under Saddle, Hut Seat Equitation and Trail as well as Reserve Class Champion for Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship. Ivy and Sister won a buckle for Reserve Class Champion Halter Mares. For 2014, Ivy will ride Kismet and Alaina will continue with Sunny. I would like Ivy to ride Splash in western classes but perhaps he will be leased again.
It is 23 degrees and feels like 12 with wind chill. The temps are expected to plunge to 4 degrees tonight and won’t be above freezing again until Tuesday, so all the horses are sung in their stalls with blankets on; Sunny and Splash are not quite so snug since their stalls open on the east side but the main barn is about 30 degrees for now. BRRRRRR. I am very ready for warmer temps and lovely trail rides with my YaYa friends. Meanwhile, I need a blanket in the house. My childhood in FLA didn’t prepare me for OKLA winter.
