2014 will be the Chinese “Year of the Wood Horse.” The Chinese New Year, or “Spring Festival,” will start on Jan. 31, 2014 and celebrations will last for 15 days (see more: http://www.ibtimes.com/chinese-new-year-2014-does-year-horse-begin-january-1-or-later-1523694). Of course I like the idea of a “year of the horse” although I really aspire to a “life of the horse.”
With a high of 50, the weather allowed us to have the annual YaYa New Year’s Trail Ride to start the year off on horses in the woods. We gathered at Tom and Carry’s beautiful place in Tiawah and had a fun ride zig-zagging back and forth through the creek and up and down little hills along the cleared trails. Splash was not relaxed at all and jigged most of the way and Willy was tense too. Sunny and Kismet were rock stars as was Prince. Several other horses were a bit fresh and Carry’s horse balked more than usual. Fun of course and….. I didn’t fall off.
Naturally, we shared pot luck after the ride and the cool front came in while we were socializing. We all ended up clustered out of the wind by the wood pile chatting and munching away.
Here’s to a wonderful 2014 – with plenty of rides with our YaYa Sista’s as well as enough rain for good hay and enough pretty days for Equine Therapy.
Happy New Year of the Wood Horse to you all.
