Old Year with Friends Old and New

IMG_0245Just a few more days of 2013 and we had a lovely Saturday to play with the Ponies at the Rocking C.  To bad about the big chill expected for tomorrow – but it should stay dry if you don’t count the thick mud everywhere at the Wild O Ranch.

The girls were planning on paint ball wars with their cousins so I took Pico and Splash to the Rocking C.  Patty and Larry were away but Mallory, Roxy, Mary, Gena, Susan, and Linde joined me for equine therapy before lunch at our favorite place in Catoosa.  Pico was supposed to be my new friend Linde’s for the day but we noticed he was lame during warm up.  Bummer.  We know he got a broken splint on the left front 18 months ago but he has been sound for trail riding since June.  Today however, he looked off on both forelimbs.  What now?  So, after I worked Splash W/T/C left and right in the German Neck Stretcher, Linde and I swapped horses so she could ride a little without worrying about hurting her horse.  Splash was not particularly fun since he dragged out all his old tricks for work avoidance with Linde – dropping inside shoulder and cutting every corner he could.

On the other hand, it was a beautiful day and I think we enjoyed getting out for a little horsey fun.  All the horses were a bit fresh especially Rocky and Sammy.  But it was fun to introduce Linde and long lost friend Susan to some of the usual party lesson girls.

IMG_9991Late afternoon, my niece Cara brought her boys Will and Emory to see the “farm,” chase chickens, pat kittens, and (perhaps) ride a pony.  But the tractor was much more appealing and they were pretty interested in the BIG manure pile.  Will says horses are scary because they are big.  He has a point.  Maybe he will want to ride when he is a little bigger.

The  big freeze is expected tonight but I will ride tomorrow.  If it’s not to cold.
