We got a great start to the weekend with a Gymkhana at the Rocking C to benefit the 2013 Oklahoma Tornado Victims. Patty and Larry are great hosts and we started with a pot luck at 6 pm followed by the fun show. Over $3,000 was raised for both animals and people affected by the 2013 tornadoes in OK. And we had a lot of fun. AND, we got to eat good food and socialize with good friends. We won’t discuss Splash and his efforts to buck me off during Ride-A-Buck. I didn’t loose my buck but I was eliminated anyway.
Saturday morning we had a mini-party lesson with Nancy E followed by a picnic lunch. Splash apologized for the bucking incident Friday night and he was a very good boy during our lesson.
The weather stayed fine for the St. Jude Trail Ride at the Flying M Ranch on Sunday morning. What a beautiful ranch and a wonderful ride. Thanks to Debby and Scott Moore for sharing their lovely ranch with us and thanks to the riders and volunteers (Deb, Dean, and Nancy), sponsors, auction item donors as well as bidders. Our ride raised more than $1,400 dollars for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Stephanie bonded with her fabulous mount (Gunner) brought for her by Susan and Kendall. All the horses and the mule were well behaved and we enjoyed our ride to the bluff/overlook, down the hill and around the meadow, up the hill and along the “sock” trail, past the “nice bull,” around ponds and through hay fields. We worked up an appetite for hot dogs and pot luck after our ride. Plan on joining us next year for an encore at the Flying M.
